Meet Our Coaches
Matt McManus
Owner
Matt McManus has over ten years of experience as a strength and conditioning coach, including five at the Division 1 college level. Before coming to Axis he was an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Maryland, where he oversaw the strength and conditioning programs for women’s soccer, softball, and women’s tennis while assisting with men’s lacrosse and volleyball.
Before coming to Maryland Matt worked at the University of Michigan for a year, where he assisted with all of the Wolverines’ 27 Olympic Sports.
Prior to Michigan, he worked as a Graduate Assistant Strength Coach at Utah State University and as an intern at Arizona State. At Utah State he designed and implemented programs for men’s and women’s track and field, cross country, women’s soccer, gymnastics, and golf, while assisting with football, men’s and women’s basketball, softball, and volleyball.
Throughout his career Matt has worked with numerous All-Conference and All-American athletes, as well as notable professional athletes James Harden, Bobby Wagner, Tim Hardaway Jr., Glenn Robinson III, and Trey Burke. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Movement Science from Michigan in 2008 and his Master’s in Health and Human Movement from Utah State in 2010. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA and a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting. Matt has also competed in powerlifting and weightlifting since 2007. He placed first at the USA Powerlifting Arizona State Championships in 2008 and the American Powerlifting Federation Utah State Championships in 2010 and is the former USAPL junior state record holder in the squat in Michigan.
Adam Shick
Director of Strength and Conditioning
Adam Shick attended Lutheran West High School in Ohio where he was a senior football captain, First-Team All-Conference, and Offensive Lineman of the Year. After high school, Adam attended Grove City College, where he majored in Exercise Science and played tight end for the football team. He is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA and a certified sport performance coach through USA Weightlifting.
Adam worked at T3 Performance in Ohio prior to joining Axis. He brings a wealth of knowledge of technical speed and agility progression as well as experience coaching the Olympic lifts and helping athletes develop the strength needed for various sports.
Riley Fritts
Assistant Coach
Riley Fritts, a 2006 Centennial High School graduate, is in his fifth year as a coach as Axis. While at Centennial, Riley played football and basketball, earning All-Conference honors.
After graduation, Riley went on to play football at Salisbury University. While splitting time at linebacker and defensive end he earned multiple conference player of the week awards, along with All-Conference and All-American honors during his senior year.
Before working at Axis, Riley trained at Axis for almost a decade. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA.
Elliot Quinteros
Assistant Coach
Elliot Quinteros joined Axis as an Assistant Coach in January 2019 after completing a semester long internship in the fall 2018. Elliot is a 2013 graduate of Hammond High School, where he played varsity soccer and was a two-time team captain and First-Team All-County selection as a senior. Elliot continued his soccer career at Frostburg State University, where he graduated in 2018 with a Bachelors Degree in Exercise and Sport Science. He is currently pursuing his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through the NSCA.
In addition to coaching at Axis, Elliot also currently coaches U10 and U11 boys soccer teams for Thunder Soccer Club in Howard County.
Anthony Taylor
Assistant Coach
Anthony Taylor joined Axis in January 2019 after graduating from Frostburg State University with a Bachelors Degree in Exercise and Sport Science. During his time at Frostburg Anthony played defensive back on the football team, earning 1st team All-Conference and honorable mention All-Region honors as a senior. After graduating, Anthony worked as an intern strength and conditioning coach at Frostburg State University (Fall 2018) and UMBC (Spring 2019). In addition to working as Axis, Anthony is the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and Defensive Backs Coach at Northwood High School, in Silver Spring. Anthony is currently pursuing his CSCS while he applies to graduate school programs.
